The service record
What a boiler service in Traddie actually asks you for
Most job software treats a service as a tick and a date. Gas Safe treats it as a record you signed. Here is what you are actually filling in with the case off.
The appliance, properly identified
Make, model, serial number and GC number, appliance and boiler type, flue route, approximate age, warranty status, whether the Benchmark book is present and whether the install was notified. The record will not issue on a make and model alone.
The checks, in the order you do them
Case seal, burner, heat exchanger, condensate trap, fan and flueways, electrodes, safety devices, expansion vessel, PRV discharge, controls, hot water, heating, leaks, flue terminal and ventilation. Each one pass, fail or not applicable, against the manufacturer instructions you confirmed you followed.
Combustion at max and min, or it does not go out
CO in ppm, CO2 as a percentage and the CO/CO2 ratio at both rates, plus ambient CO, gas rate, burner pressure and working pressure. Traddie will not let the record be issued on one rate, because a single reading does not tell anybody whether the appliance is safe across its range.

System water, which is where the callbacks come from
Inhibitor test and product, whether it was topped up, magnetic filter present and cleaned, system pressure before and after, and whether a leak is suspected. Leave the inhibitor check blank and Traddie says so before you go.
Unsafe situations, handled the way GIUSP expects
Mark an appliance At Risk or Immediately Dangerous and the record will not issue until the gas warning notice is completed, the action taken is recorded, and you have confirmed the appliance was labelled. A failed flue, ventilation, case seal or safety device forces the unsafe route on its own rather than waiting for you to pick it.
And it knows a service is not a CP12
Service a boiler for a landlord or a managing agent with no Landlord Gas Safety Record attached to the visit and Traddie tells you on site. It is the most expensive misunderstanding in the trade, and it gets caught before you drive off rather than in a complaint.
Traddie issues the record and holds the evidence. It is not a Gas Safe notification tool, so building notifications still go through the Register.
The small things that save you a second visit
A gas engineer loses an afternoon to the same three things: copying a data plate, going back for a form nobody filled in, and working out what happened at that property last year. These give that time back.
Photograph the data plate
Point your phone at the rating label and Traddie reads it: make, model, serial number, GC number, boiler or water heater, and combi, system or regular. It returns nothing rather than guessing a make it cannot read, and you confirm every field before it lands on the record.
The property already knows what is in it
Appliances are saved against the property with their location and flue type, so next year the CP12 arrives knowing about the boiler in the airing cupboard and the fire in the lounge. Make, model and location carry over. A reading, a pressure or an outcome never does.
It will not let you issue half a record
Engineer name, Gas Safe number and signature, make and model, a serial or a GC number, the appliance outcome, the next service date and combustion at both rates. Miss one and it names the one you missed instead of failing quietly.

A CP12 covers the boiler, the fire and the cooker on one document, each with its own location, flue type, outcome and whether it belongs to the landlord or the tenant. One visit, one record.
The warning notice comes off the same job
At Risk or Immediately Dangerous raises the gas warning notice from the visit you are already in, carrying the appliance across rather than making you start a second document from scratch.

Keep the version you showed them
It comes out as a PDF with its figures frozen as they read on the day. Generating it again makes a new one rather than rewriting the old one.

- Store your Gas Safe business registration and engineer card, your ACS qualifications, public liability and employers’ liability with their expiry dates, and get a reminder before any of them lapse.
- ACS runs on a five-year cycle, so the reminder is set long before the renewal turns urgent.
- Send an agent one revocable link. Nothing on it is labelled verified, because Traddie has not verified it: a row is either checkable, with a deep link to the Gas Safe Register, or self-declared with your own document attached.
